RemSound Privacy Policy

RemSound for iOS and macOS streams audio between devices you choose. It collects no data about you.

Data collection

The app collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers. Nothing is shared with or sold to anyone.

What stays on your device

  • Settings, saved profiles, and the names you give peers are stored on your device.
  • The optional password is stored in your device's Keychain and is never sent anywhere. Devices only exchange a short fingerprint derived from it, so they can tell they share the same password without revealing it.
  • A random identifier used on servers is kept in this device's Keychain only and is never backed up or synced.
  • Log files are off by default. When turned on, they stay on your device and contain no passwords; they leave it only if you share them yourself.

Microphone

The microphone is used only while sending is turned on, either by you or by a profile you saved with sending on. Audio goes to the peers you selected, directly or through a server you connected to, and is never recorded or stored. With a password set, audio is encrypted end to end with AES-256-GCM.

Network

The app talks only to devices on your network or VPN and to servers you connect to. Other RemSound devices see your device's name and IP address.

Servers

Servers can be run by anyone, including the developer. Whoever runs a server you connect to can see your IP address, your device's name, the password fingerprint, and who you are connected to. With a password set, the server cannot hear your audio: it only forwards encrypted packets. Only connect to servers you trust.

iCloud sync

Profile sync is off by default. When turned on, profiles are stored in your iCloud account by Apple, and their passwords travel through iCloud Keychain, which is end-to-end encrypted. The developer has no access to either.

Notifications

On iPhone, the app can show a notification when someone asks to connect. It is created on your device; nothing is sent through a notification service.
